Go to the shopAbout PlantA Fleuroselect Bronze Medal winner, Calendula 'Fiesta Gitana Mixed' is an easy to raise hardy annual that will flower virtually all summer long. With a wide colour range of fully double blooms and a compact habit, this is a superb bedding mixture. The plants are tolerant of even the poorest soils and are good subjects for outdoor containers. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 20cm (10"). Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. The light peppery taste of the flowers can be added to breads for extra flavour with a touch of colour. Can also be used as a substitute for saffron when colouring rice dishes. .
Propagation These seeds & plants aren’t too picky on growing conditions. An area of full sunlight is recommended, as well as temperatures of at least 65F to 70F. The soil doesn’t need to be rich in organic matter, but it will need to be well drained for successful growth. It is best to add a light compost to any areas that contain hard, compact soil to improve drainage. Water daily with a moderate moisture setting until germination occurs.
